So, where do you start when you can’t say what you really do?
 
Recently I was working with a client who wanted help getting clear on her message. She wanted to know what her human design said expecting an answer from there. I’ve been there myself. She had a vast knowledge of many modalities as many of us do, and was asking for direction, clarity, + validation.
 
A clear message is one of the most important things in your business if you want to consistently attract clients you love to work with who also want to pay you.  Sure, you can make money just throwing stuff out there, but after a while, it can be exhausting!
 
When you start working on your message to build your audience, the first thing a coach will probably ask you is:
 
What problem do you solve? 
What words does your ideal client use?  
How did they find you? 
What do people get out of working with you? 
Who is your ideal client?
 

But what if you don’t know?  

 
Are you supposed to just make it up (I actually had one coach tell me to do just that!) or if you have multiple passions (hello, Manifesting Generator here), which one do you start with?
 
If you don’t know how to answer those questions, here are the 5 things I did to get started:
  1. Start by offering to work with a handful of people for free or in exchange for feedback or donation pay what you can. Test it out.
  2. See what people want from you + respond to that. What are they recognizing you for? Being drawn to you for? Is it what you are sharing without agenda? Your Audience reflects back on what you are putting out there and the energy from which it comes ( your motivation).
  3. Focus on asking for people who want what you are pulled to share or whatever sounds fun. Your elevated positive energy will attract those who are in alignment with you and after a few sessions you will hopefully see the pattern and if it feels right for you to keep doing these sessions like this.
  4. Be flexible + in the flow.  Topics will change, motivations will change. Go with it.  by being open-minded you will see more options + have more choices.  Go with what resonates + pass on the others.  One thing my Husband ( a 4/6 Generator) says all the time:  “No doesn’t mean no forever, just no right now”  Gotta trust that when the universe will send the right opportunities back around when it’s the right time.
  5. Use a form to catch their words + gather insight.  I use a google form pre + post in order to see the difference our conversations make.
 This evolution will show you what your audience wants from you faster than anything else, but will also show you what path to follow + what isn’t meant at this time. 
 
How I put this into action.  I saw several posts in groups about messaging, but it was all coming from a place where you already have had clients.  Then I got an idea of helping others with their messaging by looking in their HD chart.  Asked a group online if they wanted help with aligning their biz with their HD.  Got one person who said, “yes, I’d like help with my marketing message.”  We had a 30 min conversation.  Looking at her chart, she realized what she was being pulled to do + share was in alignment with her Human Design.  We brainstormed the next steps for her + she went on to start finding her audience by sharing what she was excited about.  Done.
 
What I realized:  many of us who are just starting out or re-inventing ourselves might not have had the luxury of a bunch of clients yet, so not knowing what your message is might feel daunting.  Maybe you’ve had a handful of clients, but are not seeing the pattern yet so this process can help focus your efforts more purposefully. 
 
Many of us want to start making money right now, but without our focus on what makes us different + unique, it’s hard to talk to that ideal client or any client really.
 
Ultimately, your goal is to be able to actually tell people what you do in a clear concise manner.  Explain to them what results in you help your clients get in words your ideal client will use.  Those are the words that will resonate + attract future clients.  First, you have to put in the research + talk to people.
