Has anyone ever told you you’re moody?

I feel ya!  We all have our ups + downs, but being emotionally defined can directly affect whether we have a positive or negative outcome on our decision-making process.  It means that our feelings

50% of us are emotionally defined, meaning we have an emotional authority, or our Solar Plexus is colored in on our human design chart. This means we have a consistent way we deal with emotion, and it can change our timeline on making decisions in a way that can either be the best decision we ever made or the worst!

In Human Design, we call it “riding the wave”, or waiting to experience the wave of high + low feelings before making a decision.  Usually the bigger the decision, the longer it takes to come to that non-emotional feeling of clarity.

For me, it looks like “not feeling it” one minute to “yep, totally excited about it” the next.

Ever feel buyer’s remorse?  A great example of not riding your wave or sleeping on a bigger decision.  Buyer’s remorse is when you buy something when you feel super good about it, almost elated + usually spontaneously, then wake up the next morning to wonder if it’s too late to return it.

For instance, a friend sends you a video for a life coach.  As you’re watching the video you feel really connected to her, that she speaks your language + you feel super excited about working with her so you enroll on the spot!   Then later in the day, you start to feel doubt about your purchase + wonder if you did the right thing…of course, you did!  You would not have felt so good if it wasn’t right, right?

Then the next day when you log into the program you realized it doesn’t feel right for you, that the coach is great but her material is not quite what you need and doesn’t really resonate at all.  Or you stick with the program + see it through only to have a bunch of info you cannot actually use!  Now what?

That can be an expensive learning curve!

So, how do you recognize it, ride your wave + know when you are done?

Recognizing your wave ~
First, what kind of wave do you have?
When we are Emotionally defined, we have at least 1 defined gate that comes off our Solar Plexus + it has its own energy frequency.

One kind of wave is an Individual wave that is pretty consistent most of the time then has a big dip down or a spike up then back to center. The gates with this wave are 22/12 + 39/55.  If you have this kind of wave, your wave will be rather unique to you + what you are responding to.

If your wave is Tribal, then it’s all about community + feeling like you belong.  These gates are 19/49 + 37/40 and you don’t like to be left out!

Then there is the Collective wave which is all about what you desire the outcome to be or expectations.  The gates for this one are 14/30 + 36/35.  If you have these gates, be sure to set expectations upfront or you are setting yourself up to be disappointed a lot.
Emotionally Defined Solar Plexus
Riding the Wave
I find that when making a decision I like to check in and see how I feel about it knowing I can feel the full span of “what the hell” vs “Why the Hell not?”

My wave is individual, so it might not feel exactly the same way for you, but the basic principles are still at work.

No response: Sometimes I get a “Meh” which is my Solar Plexus saying it doesn’t really want to weigh in, so I go with what feels right in the moment (intuition + Splenic response).

Feeling doubt: If I like an opportunity but feel a shadow of a doubt, I pause or sit with it.  If someone is asking you for an answer + you feel this way, tell them “I just need to sit with it” and they will often let you have time to do just that.  No one wants to refund you if they don’t have to.

Bigger Decisions (like buying a car): I find it best to sleep on it when it’s a bigger decision or I feel doubtful.  I also can feel a click when it’s time to take action… like the emotion has passed like a cloud of feeling  + I feel at peace with whatever my choice is.

So the question is: After checking in + waiting, do you still feel good about it or not? Then trust it + Go with that.

Even then we will never be 100% “absolutely yes!”
It’s just how we are wired.
So, where does the wave come from?
Each gate has it’s own wave frequency:  Individual, Tribal or Collective.  Individual waves (gates 55 + 22) are unique to you depending on your energy.  Tribal is a little bit up + down all the time until something big comes your way.  Then you can experience big “Yes” or big “Nope” .  Collective wave tends to build, build, build then drop, build then drop again.

Mental note to self:  When you feel like all hope is lost or heading that way, take a deep breath + remind yourself that this is just a wave + things will change for the better.  They always do.  The worst thing you can do is force yourself out of a wave.  If you don’t acknowledge + feel all of your emotions it can end up taking a physical, mental, or Spiritual toll on you.

For me, my wave is Individual with G22, Grace/Surrender, and it feels pretty steady until something big comes to me to respond to (Manifesting Generator strategy).  If I feel super excited about it, that’s my sign to check-in to see how I emotionally feel about it.  Is this a good opportunity for me?  Does it feel right?  Is it the right time to do this?

For instance:  An exciting opportunity comes up for you to respond to (like someone asking you to present at a conference or do an interview).  Your initial reaction is “OOO, that would get me in front of so many people” or “that sounds like fun!”  Then you sit with it, and you start really feeling into all the work it would take, how long you have to get everything ready, and is this really your target audience?  So, you sleep on it.  Checking in in the morning, you re-read the email invite.  Your sacral is still a “Yes, this is a good opportunity for you” + your Solar is “Yep, I feel good about doing this”…then you accept the invite.

If you woke up and felt a heaviness in your chest or doubt about doing it, I’d respond, “no, not right now”.  There is something that isn’t quite right, might be timing or lack of information for you to really be in alignment with the best outcome.

Mental note to self:  “No right now does NOT mean no forever”

5 Ways to Ride your Wave

So, how do you get through your wave without losing your mind?

Here are 5 things I do to make sure I enjoy the ride!

  1. Get present ~ just feel your emotion.  Sit with it + observe.  This isn’t the time to push it out of you, it is showing up for a reason, so let it pass through you.  If you push or ignore it, it will come back to bite you!
  2. Keep following your strategy ~ The whole purpose of your strategy is to navigate through everyday life with more grace + ease…so do that.
  3. Trust yourself + your intuition ~ you are wired to know deep down inside of you what you are meant to do next.  Trust it.  We often are conditioned to doubt what we cannot put into words.  Ok.  Do that.  No words.  Just feel.
  4. Pay Attention ~ I cannot stress this enough.  If you don’t look up every once in a while you will miss all the awesome opportunities that are coming into your life.  Being aware of what you asked for is key to getting it.
  5.  Remember this too shall pass ~ like the weather, your wave is just that a wave…so what feels like the saddest you’ve ever been will too pass + the Sun will shine again.  Just let your emotions roll through you.

So, if you are emotionally defined it helps to allow yourself to slow down a bit.  To take your time.  Pay attention to what opportunities, invites, or ideas catch your awareness. Excited/Doubt is your sign to sit with it or sleep on the decision. Then, if it feels right, do it.

When you follow your emotional authority and ride the wave, the steps you take are so much easier. Everything seems to fall into place. Deep breath. You got this.
