Marketing in Response

Girl Scout CookiesGirl Scout CookiesAre you marketing in response?

I don’t know about you but I’m getting kind of tired of all this push marketing. You know, the pressure you feel to constantly keep up with everyone else on social media. Pushing yourself to put everything on display for all the world to see. It’s like everyone is screaming “ look at me, look at me” grasping the attention for anything.

It’s exhausting.

So I’ve taken a hiatus from my regularly scheduled marketing ploys to change things up a bit. Instead, I’m experimenting with what I call “marketing in response”.

Most of us generator types + projectors are designed to wait for something to show us our next step on our path. A sign, invite, or recognition that this is what our audience wants from us next.

Basic Human Design strategy + authority 101, right?

But what do we do to get a sign, invited, or recognized without pushing our content, products + ideas out to the world?

Simple. We share without expectation. It’s easier said than done I know, especially if you’ve been in business for a while + were taught to “go make it happen”.  You see, to share without expectation means you just share to share cuz you think it’s exciting or feels fun and makes you feel satisfied doing it. Period.  It’s something you just feel pulled to put out into the world because you feel others need to know or want to inform them of without needing someone to like it or comment on it for your own validation.

You share out of the kindness in your heart cuz it makes you feel good.

So what does this look like? I have a great example for you from the innocent perspective of a kid. My son, who’s really not a kid anymore but an up + coming 14yr old, naturally initiated a sales frenzy just by sharing, thus illustrating the marketing in response concept.

You see it’s Girl Scout cookie season + my youngest daughter is a Girl Scout so cookies are a big deal for us. It’s thrilling for me, the mama entrepreneur, to teach her daughter the ins + outs of heart-centered selling….and we love cookies!

My son does his fair share of eating them, too.

Since his birthday is mid-January, it coincides with our cookie-selling season.

So this year my daughter gifted him with several boxes of cookies.

Marketing in response

He immediately packed some in his lunch to share with his friends at the only break they really had together.  Needless to say, they devoured them. Then a funny thing happened: other kids started asking where did he get the cookies? He said his sister was selling them + next thing you know he was getting notes in class the rest of the week for boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

He sold over 30 boxes in 3 days + is still getting requests from kids + teachers alike.

All without putting it out there with the intention of selling.

This is how I see “marketing in response”. The innocent share of something exciting + heartfelt that leads to a frenzy of sales. No pushing, no expectations, just putting it out there to better the experience for someone else.

So I am revamping my approach to my marketing + how I sell easiest as a Manifesting Generator.  Why work harder when you can work smarter, right?
They say that 20% of what you do reaps 80% of your rewards.  I feel this will tell me my 20%.

Here’s to working smarter, not harder!
